What it is
The Portuguese European Health Insurance Card, giving access to public health systems in the EU, EEA and Switzerland when travelling.
Who needs it
People registered with Portuguese social security who travel within Europe. It is not a substitute for travel insurance.
Where to get it
Ordered free through Seguranca Social Direta and delivered by post.
Does it expire?
Yes. The expiry date is printed on the card.
