Contrato de Promessa de Compra e Venda (CPCV)

What it is

A promissory contract of purchase and sale, under which a deposit (sinal) is paid and both parties commit to completing. It is not legally required for a sale, but is near-universal in practice because it governs the period before the deed.

Parties to most property purchases.

Where to get it

Drafted between the parties, usually by their lawyers. Signatures are typically notarised.

Does it expire?

It sets its own deadline for completion.
