What it is
Certification that a vehicle has passed the mandatory periodic inspection. Passenger cars are first inspected at 4 years, then every 2 years until 8 years, then annually, in the month of first registration.
Who needs it
Owners of vehicles aged 4 years or more.
Where to get it
Any licensed inspection centre. The 2026 fee for light vehicles is 37.47 euros. From 2026 a vehicle with an open manufacturer recall fails inspection.
Does it expire?
Yes. The due month follows the month of first registration, shown on the DUA, rather than the date of purchase.
