Residência Permanente
What it is
A permanent right of residence, independent of temporary visas and of the income or accommodation conditions attached to a first permit.
Who needs it
Residents who meet the requirement of five years of continuous legal residence. It is optional rather than automatic.
Where to get it
AIMA for non-EU nationals; the Camara Municipal for EU, EEA and Swiss citizens. Proof of five years of legal residence is required.
Does it expire?
The right is permanent. The document itself renews: 10 years for the EU certificate, 5 years for the non-EU card.
