Why I built Documentos
Hi, I'm Angelique.
I'm the founder of Documentos and the person behind The Expat Hustle, a practical resource and community for people building a life in Portugal.
I've lived through the same administrative maze that inspired Documentos. And, like most people, I've made mistakes.
We've missed deadlines. We've searched desperately for documents. We've discovered things about Portuguese bureaucracy slightly later than would have been ideal.
At one point, missing a vehicle inspection deadline resulted in a €250 fine.
It wasn't because we didn't care. It was because life was busy, the information was scattered, and there was no single place keeping everything together.
That experience stayed with me.
Through The Expat Hustle, I've spent years researching Portuguese bureaucracy, speaking with experts, answering questions from other foreign residents and, most importantly, listening to the things people struggle with.
And I kept hearing versions of the same problem:
"I know I have this document somewhere."
That became the idea behind Documentos.
Not another app telling you to be more organised. Not another system that requires you to become a productivity expert. Just one place for the administrative pieces of your life in Portugal.
