What it is
A national visa issued by a Portuguese consulate, allowing entry to Portugal to apply for a residence permit. It is affixed to the passport.
Who needs it
Non-EU, EEA and Swiss nationals intending to reside in Portugal. EU, EEA and Swiss nationals do not require one.
Where to get it
The Portuguese consulate serving your country of residence, in most countries through VFS Global.
Does it expire?
Yes, typically valid for 120 days.
