Digital mobile key
Chave Móvel Digital (CMD)
What it is
A government authentication credential linking a mobile number to an identity document, used to sign in to public service portals and to sign documents with legal validity. Foreign nationals may activate it against a passport, a titulo de residencia, or a residence card or certificate; where a residence document is used, a NIF is also required.
Who needs it
Optional. The portals it opens also accept other authentication methods, and the corresponding services can be obtained in person.
Where to get it
Online at autenticacao.gov.pt, by video call, or at a Loja do Cidadao or Espaco Cidadao. Free.
Does it expire?
Where activated against a passport, titulo de residencia or residence card, it carries the same validity as that document.
